Caption: Burkholderia pseudomallei (also known as Pseudomonas pseudomallei) - Gram-negative, aerobic, rod prokaryote. A zoonotic microorganism that causes melioidiosis. It is transmitted from infected rodents to humans through exposure to soil contaminated by rodent body wastes. Glanders disease is caused by similar strain of Burkholderia (Burkholderia mallei).
